A quality to look for in an admirable friend should be kindness. If your friend can’t be kind, then why even consider them as a friend? If they aren’t kind then they aren’t anything else because everything else falls into place when you are kind. Kindness is about caring genuinely for others around you, wanting the best for them. It can be quite easy to be rude or negative when you’re feeling down or when you’re not in the mood, but a friend should try to think before they speak or act and always strive to show kindness.
Another quality that should be in a friend should be loyalty. One of the most honorable character traits a person can develop is the ability to be loyal. Loyalty is the ability to put others before yourself, to stick with them through thick and thin, and to look out for them. Friends are supposed to put each other first, though it can be tough at times. You are supposed to look at for one another and if you need a friend, then they should be by your side helping you through whatever you may be going through. Part of being friends means that you support the other person, not because you think you'll get something back, but because you enjoy seeing the other person happy.
Another quality to look for in a friend should also be honesty and trust. When you receive honesty, trust follows it. If somebody is not honest, then how will you be able to trust them or a word that they tell you? Being able to trust someone something that other people look for in a person and can be confirmation that you're reliable, supportive and honest.
Friends are an extremely important part of our lives. They should be a shoulder to cry on when you need support as well as somebody to laugh with during the wonderful times in life. We sometimes take our friendships for granted and don't appreciate them as much as we should. We should learn to treasure our friends, and appreciate the little things that they do for us.
